Petition for abolition of mutual punitive tariffs

Abolition of mutual punitive tariffs as a result of subsidies from Boeing and Airbus

The German industry associations affected by the U.S. punitive tariffs are very relieved by the recent agreement between the EU Commission and the U.S. government to suspend the punitive tariffs raised due to the subsidy conflict for four months.

Those member companies of our German associations that trade with U.S. partners have suffered particularly heavily from this additional tariff. This is all the more true as our industries have neither dealt with the subsidies to Boeing and Airbus, nor have they benefited from them.

We would therefore like to urge you to use the four months ahead of us for intensive talks with the U.S. government. The aim should and must be to eliminate the subsidy issues, to finally settle the subsidy dispute and thus to no longer give any reason to reactivate the punitive tariffs after the deadline has expired.

The improved relations that have now been initiated between the EU Commission and the U.S. government are an ideal starting point for re-establishing the transatlantic alliance with the complete and permanent abolition of punitive tariffs.
